Child and Adolescent psychotherapy is based on the creation of a therapeutic relationship which is focused on the emotional, behavioral and social well-being of the child or teen. Therapy helps children develop problem-solving skills as well as cope with stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, peer and family relationships, particularly when there’s a major transition, such as a divorce, loss or serious illness. For children, play therapy is often the therapeutic approach that allows the child to express their thoughts, feelings and experiences through the use of playing with toys and games. It allows the child to experience therapy in a fun, non-confrontational manner thereby helping that child express emotions in a safe environment to elicit change. Adolescent therapy seeks to address adolescent issues in a caring, supportive environment. The goals are to process conflicts, build upon strengths, normalize feelings and encourage healthier choices. Parents may also be encouraged to participate in conjoint sessions to facilitate healthier communication and improved parent-teen relationships.
Parenting is one of the most demanding as well as rewarding jobs in the world. Every parent wants to be the best parent and most children, at some time, make parenting quite a challenge. Because children do not come equipped with an instruction manual, parents often find themselves charting new territory with their children. Without support, parents may find themselves isolated and running out of emotional and physical resources, which may lead to increased stress, fatigue, anxiety and depression. Goals of therapy are to gain useful parenting tools, reduce stress and tension in the home so that you can better enjoy your child while maintaining peaceful interpersonal relationships within the family.
Individual Therapy offers a person the opportunity to express their thoughts, concerns, feelings and emotions in a confidential and supportive environment. Together we can develop goals to reduce the symptoms and assist you in improving your daily level of functioning. When life’s expected and unexpected problems leave you overwhelmed, disappointed and stressed, finding a way to handle them is a major factor to overall well-being.
